You can't ignore your users

A  note about my recent experience which made me think about Software design, User experience, apps and the users. Story also posted at Medium Was this meant to make my life easy!? Software in simple terms is meant to solve complex problems with simple solutions and eliminate manual processes. These days with the advent of mobile apps, our day-to-day life has become very convenient. Many of the manual work these days are being replaced with software or apps. For e.g., filling application forms, booking movie tickets, paying bills, online banking, booking doctor’s appointment etc. Here is an experience I had recently with a software trying to replace a job being done manually. Let me set the context by first stating about the manual job which I am talking about. My company started providing cab facility for all of us employees so that we can commute to and from office with ease. They have made a deal with a cab operating company. Every time we get off the cab, w...

Royal Enfield 2 - Test Rides

This is a late follow-up to my previous post on Royal Enfield, but here I want to summarize the test rides I had taken before buying a bike. More info follows.. Bullet 500: I had started to like this bike. The forest green Colour bike had started to tempt me. I had multiple test rides of this bike in different show rooms. The feeling was mixed. On my first ride, i really liked it very much, it was feeling different from the classic 500, was pretty comfortable to ride and handle and of course the vibrations were there but compared to the classic 500, this actually felt better. But in my subsequent test rides I also experienced weird sound from engine, extreme vibration which was prominent for the pillion also. This made me relook at my liking on this bike.. Electra 350: also known as bullet 350 ES, the test ride experiences with this bike was always smooth and easy. Never found any drawbacks, there were vibration but compared to the other bikes this is way better and it was manageabl...

Places to visit from Bangalore - Halebeedu

Bengaluru is a place from which one can plan a lot of short trips and weekend getaways. A lot of trip-worthy places around. I would like to capture and showcase a glimpse of some of these places I visit in the form of short video clips and in the subsequent posts I would write a detailed posts. Halebeedu: Halebeedu temple complex. This 12th century structure has a breathtaking hoysala style architecture, with intricate carvings, mesmerising idols. One loses track of time when they go here and gets lost in the midst of this architecture marvel! Such a rich place this is, yet it feels sad to know that most of the idols are mutilated or destroyed. How can one be so cruel, that they go ahead and try to destroy such a marvellous place? Yet with all the mutilation and onslaught, it is still standing tall, showcasing the great architecture of the 12th century. Halebidu is a around 200 km from Bengaluru, and can easily be a good weekend getaway. If one wants to witness this timeless w...

Trip to Mangalore and Bekal fort

One of the places to go for a short trip from bangalore is mangalore. The journey is something that needs to be experienced, driving through the western ghats of karnataka, especially during the monsoon time, is out of this place! Rain, small waterfalls on the side of the roads, curvy road, greenery and the nature's smell are some of the things that one would enjoy while travelling here. Words are not enough to express the feeling you get while travelling through the western ghats! Here is a video that gives a glimpse of the journey and the places: So the plan was to go on a road trip to Mangaluru and from there to Bekal fort and then back to Bengaluru, This can be done in a weekend, best would be if we have at least 3 days. Good getaway from the busy Blr lifestyle! Good places to go during the rainy season/monsoon season. We followed Google maps for the route. < to be continued>

Test Ride One - Royal Enfield

I have always been an admirer of Royal Enfield bikes, Bullet in particular. I've spent a lot of time reading and watching about the history of RE, how they started, different bikes that were produced, how it entered the Indian soil and how it has attained the cult status in India. I have watched videos related to RE on youtube many times and still I've never got bored. I have been fascinated by the looks, the sound, and everything about the bike. I have been wanting to own a Bullet from a long time. In fact 4  or 5 years back when I bought my bike, I wanted to buy a bullet. Because of affordability factor and based on the needs, I had to opt for a more economical and a city commuter. But I always had interest on this bike and somewhere on the back of mind, I always knew that Bullet was the bike I want to own! There have been so many times that I had considered changing my bike to one of the RE bikes, but that never happened! Now, the thought of changing the bike and gettin...

Blogging from a mobile app

I always wanted to make a blog entry on the move using my cell phone,  whenever i want to make a quick entry on something which I remember,  on some occasion, on some idea which i get suddenly,  which i would forget later on.. I have tried doing it using mobile browser but the experience would be so bad that I never actually posted successfully.  I wanted an app for this but never got a chance to install one on my windows phone,  Nokia lumia.  As there was no official app on WP and lack of any good 3rd party apps,  I was very much disappointed! Now that I have started using an Android phone,  i have got a chance to install the blogspot app on my mobile and i am posting this using the same.  I am happy about this,  should see how much i will actually use this from now on,  but if i want to write something when i don't have access to a PC i can use this! Will write separate posts as to why i had to leave windows phone and movie to a...
